This is more an OS X issue than it is an Adobe issue. We've submitted Bug Reports and Feature Requests for years (since OS X 10.0 was released) with no response from Apple. Microsoft hasn't provided a proxy client for Mac since OS 9 days. OS X allows manual proxy configuration at the Computer Level (makes no sense since proxy servers require user authentication) for proxy authentication, but it doesn't work for most apps. Some third party solutions like Authoxy might work, but not always (Heath's site: http://www.hrsoftworks.net/Products.php).
